The credit card industry's security folks just published their list of top 5 security problems. The ones that apply to home users are

- Missing or outdated security patches. You should be getting them from Microsoft once a month
- Default passwords. Change the passwords on every gadget you buy
- Unnecessary software running. Everything that talks to the Internet is a potential source of security bugs. Clean out things you're not using
